What We Do
Jobs with Justice is action-oriented. During each year, members and organizations take the Jobs with Justice "Be There" Pledge- promising to "be there" at least five times a year for someone else's fight as well as their own. That means joining picket lines, attending contract rallies and participating in other actions or demonstrations for economic and social justice. Pledgers are mobilized through meetings, e-mail alerts and phone banks.
Jobs with Justice also works to build skills among Kansas City's key leaders and activists for economic justice by conducting our local Leadership Development Program on organizing and building labor and community power. Kansas City Jobs with Justice has monthly Organizing Committee meetings, where activists and delegates from member organizations come together to discuss strategies for current campaigns.
We also organize a delegation to the National Jobs with Justice Bi-annual Conference, which includes workshops on issues such as strike support, global solidarity, fighting racism in our work, art in activism, building student movements and much more. Such shared opportunities for local community activists and union members are key to building solidarity, as well as our capacity to fight for economic justice in Grater Kansas City. Jobs with Justice is always forging strong, engaged relationships with the local communities affected by our work.
