Occupy KC "Death of the Social Safety Net" Jazz Funeral March
Friday, December 30, 11am

Join Occupy KC as they mourn the death of the social safety net. Federal politicians are trying to balance the budget by making massive cuts to social security, Medicare, Medicaid, student aid, food stamps, and more. Join Occupy KC and JwJ member orgs for their mock funeral procession for the death of the social safety net.

The funeral procession will depart from Oppenstein Brothers Memorial Park at 12th & Walnut at 12pm and stop in front of the Social Security Administration for a eulogy and testimonials from seniors, the disabled and others who will share how these unfair cuts will cripple their livelihood. The procession will then continue through downtown to One Kansas City Place, home of a Bank of America branch and Ernst and Young.

Assemble at 11am, march at 12pm. The New Orleans Jazz-style funeral march will start at Oppenstein Brothers Memorial Park at 12th and Oak, 64106.

Raise the Minimum Wage/Cap the Rate Volunteer Orientation and Training
Tuesday, January 3, 6:30pm - 8:00pm

We need you to be trained to gather signatures so we can get these important ballot initiatives on the 2012 ballot!

Missouri Jobs with Justice, along with many other grassroots organizations, are collecting signatures to qualify two ballot initiatives. One will raise the minimum wage $1/hour to $8.25/hour, giving many low wage workers more money to spend in our local economies. The other will reform the Payday Lending Industry and protect Missourians from predatory lending by capping their maximum interest rate at 36%.

Jobs with Justice will be holding a session to train new volunteers on how to gather signatures from their friends, family members & coworkers.

The training will be at Westport Presbyterian Church, 201 Westport Road, 64111.

Sponsored by Kansas City Jobs With Justice, contact Sayra Gordillo, Regional Organizer, at Sayra@mojwj.org for more information.
